BUSINESS DESCRIPTION
Established High Production Mussel Farm
Ref. EI024
Location : South West
Asking Price : GBP 525,000
This business is an established south west based mussel farm which produces 150 tons per year of some of the tastiest mussels in the UK. The business currently has a 15 year lease of a 27 acre off shore mussel farm in the south west of England.

The business harvests, cleans, bags and wholesales the produce on a daily basis, and all product is sold and dispatched to a small group of local fish wholesalers within 24 hours of being caught.

With the investment that has recently been made, production is expected to increase in the coming twelve months to 500 tons per annum.

This increase in production as well as a recent reduction to six hours in depuration times means that the business has considerable potential to increase sales both locally and nationally. The business has already received a request to supply 10 tons of mussels per day to the London market but which it is not able to do due to the fact that all current production is taken by the local market.

The company leases two off-shore sites from the Crown Estate but less than one fifth of one site is currently being farmed, which offers huge potential to expand the business massively. One site is c28.8 hectares and the other is c44.2 hectares (all measurements are approximate and based on information provided by the vendor).

In addition to the two off shore sites the business also leases a river side processing facility and storage sheds.

As well as the two off shore sites the business also has the exclusive rights to collect all mussels grown on the river on which the processing facility is based and to farm oysters, mussels and fish under its jetty. In addition there are two foreshores sites also leased by the business which could produce another 200 tons of mussels or 5,000 oyster frames if the investment were made.

This business is an ideal opportunity for a buyer to capitalise on the assets available and to expand both the production and the marketing of the product. It has an excellent trading name and reputation.
